Who We Are

PushBlack is the nation’s largest media advocacy organization for Black Americans, currently serving 9 million people monthly across all platforms. We use the power of narrative, especially Black History, to educate and activate our subscribers to build their personal power and create lasting economic and political change.

What We’re Looking For

Chief Operating Officer (COO) will lead PushBlack business operations to maximize efficiency and develop healthy organizational culture as we continue to develop as an organization.

The successful candidate will be a well-rounded, entrepreneurial leader who moves from tactical to strategic with ease, directly supporting the Chief Executive Officer in operations, finance, and talent management. At times, this person will also oversee special projects and initiatives that span departments and teams. The COO will be able to formulate policies and procedures that support PushBlack’s overall direction. The COO will plan, direct, or coordinate the operations while supervising a remote workforce.

What You’d Be Doing

  • Work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and staff to develop a long-term strategic plan and the processes and funding to support it.
  • Direct administrative activities that affect Pushblack’s daily operations.
  • Manage operational systems and processes related to HR, IT, Legal and Finance including:
  • Evaluate and manage PushBlack’s benefits, payroll, performance management, salary evaluations, and culture.
  • Ensure PushBlack remains compliant with all HR regulations, tax filings and audits.
  • Supervise and analyze operations and evaluate PushBlack’s performance to meet objectives, determine areas of potential cost reduction, organizational improvement, or policy change.
  • Spearhead internal talent development initiatives related to training, retreats, and company culture.
  • Review and monitor financial statements, donor activity and budget to measure productivity and goal achievement.
  • Manage external vendors to ensure they efficiently and effectively provide needed services within desired goals and budgetary guides.
  • Discover and plan the development of organizational leaders; assign or delegate responsibilities to them to spur organizational and individual professional growth.

Skills + Experience

  • Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Decision Making and Problem Solving — Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Organizational Communication — Provide information to Pushblack that is relevant to organizational goals, updates, achievements and sentiments that boost/maintain morale. Develop organizational communication procedures to ease stream of pertinent information to proper channels.
  • External Communication— Communicate with people outside the organization, represent PushBlack to the public and other external sources.
  • Developing and Building Teams — Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Consider the culture, people, information, cost and benefits of potential actions and choose the most appropriate action.
