Mainframe Application Developer

Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking a Mainframe application developer for a contract position in the Information Technology department. The candidate will work with our IT Transportation Applications support team to complete several key projects while also assisting with production system support assignments. The candidate must have initiative and be flexible to quickly adapt to changing priorities. The candidate must be a great problem solver with experience in gathering requirements to help produce design solutions for our applications. The candidate must also have extensive experience with COBOL, CICS, and DB/2, as well as a strong focus on the customer and quality of our applications.
Location:
Norfolk Southern is also in the process of constructing a vibrant and modern corporate headquarters in Midtown Atlanta, GA. Our new headquarters is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2021. During Covid-19, Norfolk Southern is 100% telecommuting.
Responsibilities and Education
Required Skills:
• 10+ years in an application development/application support role with 7+ years in COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS development in a Mainframe environment
• A self-starter that is responsible and customer-support focused
• Has good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to share knowledge and technology skills with others
• Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the proven ability to independently analyze a problem and determine root cause
• Experience working with users to gather requirements
• Experience with all phases of the SDLC

• TSO
• Angular
• JAVA
Education:
• BS Degree in computer science, engineering, math or related discipline or equivalent experience
