Senior Backend Engineer
Rebellion Defense
We are seeking Senior Backend Engineers for the Sensing Team. This position will be based out of the Washington DC office or can be remote with regular travel to customer facilities and Rebellion offices located in Seattle, Washington and Washington, DC.
The Department of Defense is developing fully autonomous vehicles (air, land, and sea based) that rely on a wide range of commercial and purpose built sensors. As a founding member of Rebellion’s Sensing Team you will be a senior member of the engineering team responsible for the delivery of cutting edge AI software used to provide environmental understanding to autonomous vehicles being developed by the Department of Defense. Observations made by our sensing products inform the decisions made by downstream autonomous navigation and communication systems. The ability to leverage the same sensing product across different vehicle types outfitted with the compatible sensors has not been done before at the DoD.
The Sensing Team will work closely with many other Rebellion engineering teams, including our AI Research and Development team and our Synthetic Aperture Radar Perception team to develop novel approaches to onboard sensing for all target vehicles. Sensing represents Rebellion’s highest priority product and engineering investment.
Clearance eligibility:
Many of the national security programs that are supported by Rebellion’s products operate in classified environments and access to those spaces and the data in them requires an active TS/SCI. An active TS/SCI or TS/SCI eligibility and willingness to be submitted for a TS/SCI background check is required for this position.
What you’ll do:
- Implement new software products that facilitate autonomous sensing using a variety of different DoD sensors and running on autonomous vehicle platforms,
- Support the delivery and operations of Rebellion Sensing product on fleets of multiple different types of DoD vehicles (land, air, sea),
- Develop machine learning powered products that support making specific classifications on a wide variety of different commercial and purpose built sensor types,
- Deliver and operate Rebellion’s sensing products in operational environments,
- Observe the performance of Rebellion’s sensing products in operations and continuously deliver improvements.
You may be fit for this role if you:
- Have applied machine learning techniques to solve autonomous vehicle problems such as scene perception (SLAM), entity classification, entity tracking, and future entity position forecasting or have applied machine learning techniques to solve autonomous vehicle problems such as navigation optimization, obstacle avoidance, or motion planning,
- Trained, and validated (in simulated and real environments) machine learning models using frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch in distributed cloud based environments,
- Are self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment,
- Have a background in computer vision, machine learning,or related field or equivalent experience,
- Have strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable sharing your expertise with others.
